A few weeks ago, my little sister Sarah was the victim of a home invasion that left her not only missing her laptop, schoolbooks, passport, drivers license and numerous other personal belongings, but also her sense of safety and security in her own home. Sarah is a college student in Bellingham, Washington and an active member of the punk and hardcore community in that scene. On top of caring a lot about music, she cares a lot about other people as well. Sarah acts as an aid to developmentally disabled people for a living and hopes to make a career out of helping people. If anyone deserves a break, it’s her.
So over the last few weeks I’ve sent hundreds of emails and interacted with tons of bands to put together a compilation of songs to help Sarah get back on her feet. What you have in front of you is Songs for Sarah, a compilation of 40 songs for $4. The wonderful human beings that brought these songs into the world have donated them to them to be sold for a good cause, and I could not be more grateful. You’re welcome to donate above the $4 if you’d like, but any help at all is greatly appreciated. 100% of funds raised go right to Sarah to replace the things she lost.
Doing this comp has reminded me why I fell in love with punk and hardcore when I was a kid. The kindness and genuine concern showcased to me by the fine people who made these songs has given me back that “us against them” attitude I haven’t had in a long time. We are part of a community/extended family of sorts, and it’s nice to be reminded of that. Special thanks to Jared Hart and Jeff Berman for their help with this and for being great people overall.
Thanks + Love.
Ben is amazing for taking the time to get this together. I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah this summer, she showed my roommates and I around Seattle, and she rules. There are many amazing bands on this comp, please check it out!
P.S. that’s my dumb mustachioed face on the cover. Hail.
